Our history

This is a continuing and constantly updated story of the Bear Creek Cemetery

It is estimated that the cemetery was originally established around 1872 as a graveyard associated with an Episcopalian mission church known as St. Mark's in the Wilderness and was known for many years as St. Mark's Cemetery.   The church was moved and is now the sight of the rustic pavilion building currently in the cemetery.  The earliest marked grave is a small headstone of a child named Emma who died on December 31st, 1871.
